What it is
YouTube MCP is a small, open-source Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. It lets you, the owner of a YouTube account, ask your own AI assistant (for example an MCP-capable desktop app or code editor) to manage your own YouTube subscriptions and playlists through the official YouTube Data API v3.
It runs on your own computer, uses your own Google Cloud OAuth credentials, and talks only to Google's APIs. There is no hosted service, no account to create and no developer server in the middle.

- Subscriptions: list your subscriptions, subscribe to a channel, unsubscribe from a channel.
- Playlists: list your playlists, create a playlist, update its title, description or privacy setting, delete a playlist.
- Playlist items: list the videos in a playlist, add a video, remove a video.
- Your channel: show your channel details, your liked videos and your uploads.
- Lookup: search public YouTube videos, channels and playlists, and look up a channel by ID or handle.
Every change is made only when you (through your assistant) ask for it.
How it works
- You create OAuth credentials in your own Google Cloud project and run a one-time sign-in on your machine.
- Google returns an OAuth token, which is saved in a file on your own computer only.
- Your AI assistant starts the server locally and calls its tools; the server calls the YouTube Data API v3 and returns the result to your assistant.
Google OAuth scope requested: https://www.googleapis.com/auth/youtube (manage your YouTube account), used only for the features listed above.
